Micro Mosaics

Antique Micro Mosaic, End of18th c., Roma

A very beautiful and old roman micro mosaic, late 18th/early 19th century, depicting a neo-classical subject: an urn, a tripod, and a box, a subject quite common in the earlier micro mosaics, inspired by the ancient large roman mosaics.

The earliest micro mosaics (as this one) are realized using a metal holder (copper or brass) instead of a  stone base, as for the 19th-century pieces, and are always quite thin.

Excellent quality.
