Following the series of portraits by Jacopo Franchini, those by Luigi Moretti (1867-1946) also deserve special mention. One of the most significant pieces is the portrait of Christopher Columbus, created in 1892 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America. This portrait is likely the one that most resembles a painting and is displayed in an aventurine frame.
The murrine is of an exceptional size,and in perfect condition,but the added aventurine border has a line,that does not interfere with the murrina .See pics .
