Luigi Moretti, Portrait of his Father Vincenzo Moretti, Murano – Venezia 1888
The series of portraits by Jacopo Franchini is noteworthy, but the works of Luigi Moretti (1867-1946) also deserve special attention.
The first portrait was dedicated to his father, Vincenzo, who was renowned for his mosaic murrine and replicas of Roman murrine glass. Completed in 1888, the initial attempt at this portrait was disappointing. However, the second attempt, which is the one being discussed, showcases a true likeness and a highly refined technique.
This portrait is referenced by Professor G. Sarpellon in his book “Miniature di Vetro – Murrine 1838 – 1924,” published by Arsenale Editore in Venice in 1990. It appears on page 127, picture 934.
