Antique JewelleryBleached Carnelian Bead from China-Tibet
A looking ancient carnelian displaying the sought after longevity decoration. It presents a chip near one hole, and it seems to be even very old.
These beads range from orange to deep red in colour, depending on iron’s inclusions in chalcedony. They might also display crystalline banding, like this one.
Normally this kind of beads are etched in white colour on a black background and in Tibet is considered a “Chung dZi”.
According to Horace Beck “Etched Carnelian Beads”, 1933, it belongs to the “middle period” that goes from the 300BCE to 200CE
The chip allows to see the crystalline banding, that goes through the whole bead, and the depth of the bleaching.
